A Welcome Space for Everyone

CHLC is a welcoming community.

Our diversity reflects God’s creation, and our shared unity is in Christ. Our history of welcoming refugees has extended to the work of anti-racism, uplisting the LGBTQIA+ community, and equity.

We are an ELCA congregation rooted in the gospel message of Christ’s love and justice for all. We openly welcome and affirm YOU: your race, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, as well as those of you who may have been excluded because of other human distinctions such as ability, age, addictions, mental health, imprisonment or economic status. We are committed to being the body of Christ because we believe: it takes a village.

Diversity has long been a part of CHLC’s story. Formed through the merger of Swedish and Norwegian congregations, we continue to be shaped and enriched by people of many cultures, languages, experiences, family structures and identities. In addition to our weekly worship, we host a monthly Nuer-language worship service led by and for members of the South Sudanese community, celebrating the gifts and traditions they bring to our shared life together. We believe the diversity of God’s people is not something to overcome, but a reflection of the Kingdom of God and a gift to be celebrated.

No matter where you find yourself on life’s journey, you are welcome here at CHLC. We believe God is already at work in your story, and there is a place for you within this community of faith.
